Last week was diverse in the Brainzooming world, as we were engaged in serving clients across many different aspects of what we do. The week included:
- Large scale community collaboration workshops - Nearly eighty students from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale gathered Monday night and a comparable number of Carbondale, IL residents assembled on Tuesday for community collaboration workshops to imagine the community's future with Gigabit Internet capabilities.
- On Wednesday, I delivered the closing keynote at the Real Time Marketing Lab with a mini-workshop on using strategic thinking super models to help C-suite executives understand social networking and content marketing strategy.
- Thursday included working with a local non-profit to develop the strategic foundation for an important initiative, along with developing initial themes from the Carbondale community collaboration workshops.
- Friday's priority involved finalizing a new product innovation workshop we're developing in collaboration with a market research company for one of its clients.
When people ask why I left the Fortune 500 world to start The Brainzooming Group in 2009, I tell them it wasn't because of struggling with working for someone else and needing to run my own company.
Instead, after developing the Brainzooming community collaboration and innovation methodology during hundreds of internal workshops at our multi-billion dollar transportation and logistics company, I wanted to see how our methodology worked in other industries and setting.
That is why weeks such as the last one are so rewarding and filled with learning.
Switching among so many ways we facilitate community collaboration and learning for organizations keeps us at the top of our game. These weeks require shifting among groups of widely different sizes, community situations, and objectives.
While we perform a tremendous amount of what we do online via our Blast! online collaboration platform, engaging people directly always pushes what we do into new areas.
If you had asked me several years ago whether we could deliver the same productivity and efficiency in a situation where we had NO IDEA how many or which people would walk into a workshop, I would have been very cautious. For the Monday workshop at SIU, however, we simply designed a different type of workshop that worked no matter the number or composition of the group that decided to participate.
That is a huge change, and opens the door to some radically different future workshops.
